Double Feature!

U.S. documentary. A cinéma vérité look at Northeast High School in Pennsylvania in the spring of 1968. You are there! Like a fly on the wall we watch the daily life in a 1968 high school. Some of the scenes include: hallway socializing, classroom instruction, adults reprimanding and punishing students, teachers and the principal in a meeting discussing how to handle a student, and more.

Most of the male teachers and administrators look like "engineers down at the plant" with white shirts, skinny ties, and flat top haircuts. Many of the boys and girls are wearing groovy 1960s clothes and hairstyles. We see the authoritarian rule of the high school by men who bark orders to students and treat them like prison inmates.

You can see the 60s "generation gap" and the beginnings of the youth counter-culture that would take over in the coming years. Music heard in the film: Otis Redding: "Sitting By the Dock of the Bay," 1910 Fruitgum Company: "Simple Simon Says," Simon and Garfunkel: "The Dangling Conversation." Exterior scenes include: city streets, signage, storefronts and automobiles.

Plus this bonus selection...

U.S. documentary. A very cool look at the San Francisco Bay Area teenage scene in 1965! It centers on a Teenage Fair held at the Fairmount Hotel and the San Mateo fairgrounds. One of the film's messages is that marketers are having a dream come true with this new teenage phenomenon called, "baby boomers."

At the Teen Fair, teenage tastemakers, trendsetters, and leaders of the pack from Bay Area high schools are invited to see and give feedback on new and in-development products; everything from clothes, hair styles, music, cars, etc. Look for Rodney Bingenheimer bobbing his head and clapping his hands to the local Mexican-looking, Fender-playing garage group! DJ and Autumn Records founder Tom Donahue spins records in a glass both. Lots of groups! Terrific garage rock and roll!
