U.K. documentary. "The greatest Beatles story never told." A look back at what inspired the Beatles to make their own movie, themselves, with no prior filmmaking experience.

Shown in 1967 at 8:35pm on Boxing Day (the day after Christmas), it shocked the British public who were expecting a mop-top, rollicking good time Beatles movie. What they got was an elaborate stoner home movie where it was obvious the lads had been psychedelicized.

The fact that the film was shot in color but shown on TV in black and white did not help...especially during the film's more visually trippy segments. This documentary provides behind the scenes footage and conversations that try to explain "what were they thinking!?"

U.S. cartoon excerpts. In September 1965, the Beatles cartoon series debuted on Saturday mornings. The cartoon image of the Beatles captured their "Help!" era look. As the Beatles' image changed and their songs became deeper and more psychedelic, their cartoon image stayed the same. Seeing the "mop top" cartoon Beatles play Sgt. Pepper era psychedelic songs is a little odd but pretty cool.
