U.K. film. U.K. film. A lesser known but fascinating entry into the British cinema of the 1960s, capturing elements of the Swinging London scene and the shifting cultural tides of the era. Directed by Robert Fuest, who would later gain recognition for his stylish work on The Avengers and The Abominable Dr. Phibes, the film blends comedy, drama, and social commentary with a distinctively mod aesthetic.

Scilla Alexander (Wendy Craig) is fed up with her TV producer husband, Lewis McKenzie (Francis Matthews). His affection for the bottle and his flirtatious behavior with the stars of his various television productions drive her to leave him. She quits her job as a singer who is featured on one of his TV shows and moves in with her friend John (John Wood) while she plans to build herself the perfect home, designed perfectly for baths and parties. She buys a plot of land and consults mad ex-Nazi architect, Graff von Fischer (Clive Dunn) who has a crew of staff dressed as WWII pilots who travel about in Messerschmitt KRs.

Look for: Groovy 60s apartment, 60s iconography, hipster jazz soundtrack, cool TV studio scenes. Barry Fantoni appears as a delightfully obnoxious and spaced-out pop star. Miriam Karlin and Peter Jones from "The Rag Trade" are Matthews's studio associates. Wendy Craig, Francis Matthews, John Wood, Dennis Price, Barry Fantoni, Mark Murphy, Clive Dunn.
