SOUL! - March 1, 1972
U.S. TV show. Host: Loretta Green. "The Young People's Show." Featuring Black Ivory, Lucky Peterson, Jimmy Briscoe and the Little Beavers, and students from the Chad School. Music performed: Lucky Peterson: "Our Future," "ABC," and "1234." Black Ivory: "Don't Turn Around," and "I Keep Asking You Questions." Jimmy Briscoe and the Little Beaver: "I Want to Take You Higher," "Bring the Boys Home," "Sugar Brown," and "Hot Pants."

SOUL! - March 8, 1972
U.S. TV show. Host: Ellis Haizlip. Guests: Singer Merry Clayton and the Reverend Jesse Jackson. Merry Clayton: "After All This Time," "Grandma's Hands," "Southern Man," "Love Me or Let Me Be Lonely," "A Song For You." Merry Clayton was a top back-up singer (notably on the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter," Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" as well as the recordings of Elvis, Bobby Darin and others) who emerged as a star in her own right. The Reverend Jesse Jackson talks about his newly formed organization, People United to Save Humanity (PUSH). He explains that he's an organizer and talks about the importance of different styles of communicating. He recites his poem: "Survival to Me."

SOUL! - March 15, 1972
U.S. TV show. Hosts: Ellis Haizlip and Nikki Giovanni. Guests: Author Chester Himes, actor Al Freeman Jr., and The Dells. Author Chester Himes is welcomed back from self-exile in Europe. Actor Al Freeman Jr., who reads from Himes' autobiography. Himes was an important black author whose works include If He Hollers Let Him Go and the Harlem Detective series. The Dells and their tight band perform, "Oh, What A Night," "Always Together," "It's All Up To You," "The Love We Had Stays On My Mind."

SOUL! - March 22, 1972
U.S. TV show. Host: Ellis Haizlip. Guests: Actors Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte, and Broadway star Novella Nelson. Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte discuss their new film, Buck and the Preacher. They also talk about America's materialistic culture. Their conversations are paused by interludes of song by Novella Nelson, Broadway star, artistic and creative director of New York's Shakespeare Festival Public Theater.
