American Bandstand will leave Philadelphia (and lose its East Coast vibe) and move to Los Angeles on Feb-8-64. These are the Saturday, one-hour shows. The final weekday show was Aug-30-63.

BANDSTAND 1964
U.S. TV show. Jan-4-64. Excellent quality. 4:3 aspect ratio. For this first show of 1964, AB looks back at the highlights of 1963. Little did they know that in one month the Beatles would invade America and change everything! The boys are still sporting 50s-styled DA haircuts. Dick interviews the kids and asks which were their favorites of 1963.

In-person performances: Steve Wahrer (singer & drummer of The Trashmen) performs the still popular, "Surfin' Bird" and is interviewed. Shirley Ellis performs, "The Nitty Gritty" and gives a nervous interview. 


The kids in the studio dance to; The Dovells: "You Can't Sit Down." Bobby Vinton: "Blue Velvet." Ronettes: "Be My Baby." The Crystals: "Da Do Ron Ron." The Tornados: "Telstar." Little Peggy March: "I Will Follow Him." Paul and Paula: "Hey Paula." Four Seasons: "Walk Like A Man." Johnny Mathis: "What Will Mary Say." The Orlons: "South Street." Rockin Rebels: "Wild Weekend." Incomplete.

The kids in the studio dance to; Jerry Woodard: "I Bet You're Gonna Like It." Bobby Freeman: "S-W-I-M." The Nomads: "San Francisco Bay." Neil Sedaka: "Sunny." The Superbs: "Baby, Baby All The Time." Shuggy Bo & The Weavils: "Rosalee." Bobby Darin: "While I'm Gone." The Ventures: "Walk Don't Run '64."

The number one record is: Dusty Springfield: "Wishin' & Hopin'." Dick references the Kennedy assassination. With original commercials including a promo for ABC's "Hootenanny" TV show that will soon be replaced by "Shindig!"

KAREN 1964
U.S. TV show. Episode 9: "Teacher's Romance" Dec-17-64. Karen was a short-lived TV sitcom focused on high school girl "Karen." The opening theme was performed by the Beach Boys. In this episode Karen thinks her teacher has a crush on her. The kids use teenage lingo like: "digs," "corny," "go ape," and "neato!" Debbie Watson, Richard Denning, Mary LaRoche, Gina Gillespie.
