TELSTAR
U.K. film. Excellent quality. 16:9 widescreen. The story of Joe Meek, the pioneering British record producer and songwriter who recorded a string of early-to-mid 1960s chart hits in a three-floor flat at 304 Holloway Road in North London.

Meek was tone deaf, amphetamine addicted, paranoid, infatuated with black magic, and gay at a time when homosexuality was against the law. He was also the world's first independent record producer and responsible for several chart-toppers including, "Have I the Right," "Just Like Eddie," "Johnny, Remember Me," and the groundbreaking "Telstar," which was the first single by a British group (The Tornados) to reach #1 in both the U.K. and U.S.

Telstar provides a fascinating glimpse into early '60s British music—before the Beatles took over. The film offers cool scenes that show Meek's recording techniques and the life that artists lived while on the road touring. Some of the '60s artists depicted in Telstar include: John Leyton, Heinz, Billy Fury, Jess Conrad, Gene Vincent, Screaming Lord Sutch, Larry Parnes, John Peel, Ritchie Blackmore and others. Meek also produced music for films, most notably Live It Up.

Anyone who is interested in music history (or records music at home) will dig Telstar. Joe Meek is a very fascinating and tragic character. The film's ending will leave you stunned. Con O'Neill, Kevin Spacey, Pam Ferris, J.J. Field, James Corden, Shaun Evans, Callum Dixon, Tom Harper.
