CHAPPAQUA 1966
U.S. film. Trippy, psychedelic film about an addict's journey through withdrawal and recovery in France. Based on writer and director Conrad Rooks' experiences with drug and alcohol addiction.

Includes cameo appearances by William S. Burroughs, Swami Satchidananda, Allen Ginsberg, Moondog, Ornette Coleman, The Fugs, and Ravi Shankar. Rooks had commissioned Coleman to compose music for the film, but his score, which has become known as the Chappaqua Suite, was not used. The score was co-written by Ravi Shankar and Philip Glass. Cinemaphotography by Robert Frank.

American Russel Harwick travels to a villa outside Paris to receive treatment for drug addiction. During withdrawals, he experiences a series of flashbacks to his experiences in New York City and other parts of the world and has numerous hallucinations. The film is a cinematic time-capsule of the 1960s, with intoxicating dance scenes and ethereal visions. Look for a psychedelic performance by The Fugs where Conrad Rooks can be seen eating LSD sugar cubes off the floor.
