TAKE ME HIGH 1973
U.K. film. Excellent quality. 16:9 aspect ratio. Cliff Richard's final starring feature film swaps the beaches of his earlier films for the streets of Birmingham. The story follows ambitious merchant banker Tim Matthews (Cliff Richard), who reluctantly accepts a job in England's industrial heartland instead of New York City. There he meets lively restaurant worker Sarah (Deborah Watling), and together they stumble into an unlikely business venture that bridges the gap between big business and local entrepreneurship. Take Me High captures Birmingham at a moment of urban renewal while delivering the easygoing charm that made Richard one of Britain's biggest pop stars.

The film features many Birmingham landmarks, including Gas Street Basin, Alpha Tower, the Council House (as a hotel), Spaghetti Junction, New Street, Corporation Street, Central Library and the Hall of Memory.

In reviewing the film, Academic Paul Moody wrote: "The film is so strange, at times jaw-droppingly weird, that it has the same intoxicating power of an Ed Wood film. It is difficult to think of any British film like it, and it undeniably has historical value in its depiction of Birmingham in the 1970s. But like most films of this ilk... it is difficult to analyze historically, because it feels almost out of its own time, a film that sits outside of the usual boundaries of normal cinema."

The soundtrack includes "It's Only Money," "Midnight Blue," "Why?," "Life," "Driving," "The Game," "Brumburger Duet," "Take Me High," "The Anti-Brotherhood of Man," "Winning," "Join the Band," "The Word Is Love," and "Brumburger (Finale)," along with instrumental versions of "Hover" and "Driving." Cliff Richard, Deborah Watling, Hugh Griffith, George Cole, Anthony Andrews, Richard Wattis, Madeline Smith. Note: this is a Region 0 (all region), NTSC DVD and will play on North American DVD players.
