MODEL SHOP 1969
U.S. film. French New Wave film director, Jacques Demy, and his "Lola" star (Anouk Aimée), re-team for this dreamlike, psychedelic portrait of Los Angeles in the late 1960s. Aimée reprises her role as "Lola," with Gary Lockwood (2001: A Space Odyssey) as a Los Angeles native who follows her alluring image across Hollywood, until they finally meet at the mysterious Model Shop. Original rock and roll score by
Spirit. Model Shop was only briefly seen on its original release.
Spirit is shown rehearsing and band members have speaking parts. Model Shop provides a cool look at late 60s Hollywood and vicinity and the mod/flower power scene including: joint rolling, pot smoking, mustaches, love beads, and hippie pads with lots of bright colored posters on the walls.
The pending call of Uncle Sam to serve in Vietnam is a theme that runs throughout with dialog like; "It's kinda hard to plan for anything with the draft hanging over my head." Anouk Aimée, Gary Lockwood, Alexandra Hay, Carol Cole, Tom Holland, Duke Hobbie, Jay Ferguson, Randy California, Hilary Thompson, Jacqueline Miller, Anne Randall.
