THE LAST CHASE 1981
U.S. film. In the year 2011, the United States is a police state. Several years earlier most of the population was wiped out by a viral pandemic. In the chaos and panic, democracy collapsed, and an authoritarian movement seized power and outlawed private ownership of automobiles, boats and aircraft, reasoning that an even bigger crisis, the depletion of fossil fuels, was imminent. The loss of other personal freedoms followed, and a mass surveillance system now monitors private citizens' every move.

A former race car driver, who lost his family to the pandemic, is a spokesman for the mass transit system. Publicly, he praises the virtues of public transportation; privately, he is barely able to contain his contempt for the oppressive, autocratic bureaucracy and the dismal party line that he is compelled to promote. Secretly, he rebuilds his race car hidden from confiscation, and drives to "Free California" which has broken away from the authoritarian government. He is joined by a technically savvy teenager who feels oppressed in the new society.

Agents of the new government work to destroy the man and the rebellion he represents. An old Korean War veteran and his F-86 Sabre jet are called into service to chase down this dangerous man and end his violation of state law. In the words of one of the government agents, "People going where they want to, where they want to? This could set us back to the 1980s." Lee Majors, Burgess Meredith, Chris Makepeace, Alexandra Stewart, Diane D'Aquila, George Touliatos, Harvey Atkin.
