COUNTRY MUSIC HOLIDAY 1958
U.S. film. Excellent quality. 4:3 aspect ratio. Tons of songs! Rare film. Ferlin Husky plays Verne Brand, a country singing G.I. from Tennessee who when discharged from the army auditions for a record company (over the phone!) then heads to New York City!

Verne's buddies, Al Fisher and Lou Marks, convince fast-talking record company executive Sonny Moon (played by Jesse White) into signing Verne with Moon Records (Sun Records! Get it?) - Check out his cool "business card" ...see below! Moon and his vice-president, Rocky Graziano, give Verne a big publicity build-up by getting his name into the gossip columns. Enter movie star Zsa Zsa Gabor who takes a 50% interest in Verne's contract and refers to his style as peasant music!

Next, Verne's Tennessee sweetheart, Marietta (played by June Carter), arrives in New York City to check up on Verne who has just signed to appear on Art Ford's television variety-program.

Country Music Holiday has a pretty strange cast that includes the original Maytag repairman Jesse White, young Patty Duke in her first film, heavyweight champ Rocky Graziano, the strip-club comedy team of Fisher and Marks, Hungarian she-devil, Zsa Zsa Gabor, country singer Faron Young (who sings several songs including the Elvis-styled, rock 'n' roll tune "When It Rains It Pours"), Ferlin Husky, The Jordanaires, Lonzo and Oscar, Drifting Johnny Miller (the one man band) and the Ladell Sisters who sing the semi-rockabilly number "Wang Dang Doo."

Country Music Holiday feels a little bit like the film, Mr. Rock and Roll, with the many music acts appearing in rapid succession (including Ferlin Husky) and because it stars Rocky Graziano and the comedy team of Al Fisher and Lou Marks all of whom starred in Mr. Rock and Roll.

Songs include: "When It Rains It Pours," "My Home Town," "Wang Dang Doo," "Goodbye, My Darlin'," "Don't Walk Away from Me," "Ninety-Nine Percent," "Terrific Together," "Albuquerque," "Little Miss Ruby," "Country Music Holiday." Brook Benton and Clyde Otis wrote several of the songs. Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote "Country Music Holiday."

Ferlin Husky, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Rocky Graziano, Faron Young, Al Fisher, Lou Marks, June Carter, Jesse White, Cliff Norton, Rod Brasfield, Hope Wainwright, Patty Duke, Art Ford, Lew Parker, The Jordanaires, Lonzo and Oscar, Drifting Johnny Miller, The Ladell Sisters.
