Double Feature!

U.K. film. Produced by Ringo Starr and released by Apple Films, Son of Dracula was billed as "The First Rock-and-Roll Dracula Movie." This is the best quality version we've seen, out of many lesser quality ones.

Son of Dracula has received some terrible reviews over the years but we think it has its merits. Ringo Starr plays Merlin the Magician and Harry Nilsson plays Count Downe, the Son of Dracula. The Count's rock-and-roll band, the Count Downes, include members Klaus Voormann, Keith Moon, Peter Frampton, John Bonham, Leon Russell, Bobby Keyes, and Jim Price who can all be seen rocking away in performance scenes.

There are seven songs in the film, all taken from Harry Nilsson's "Nilsson Schmilsson" and "Son of Schmilsson" LPs. Songs include: "Daybreak," "At My Front Door," "The Moonbeam Song," "Remember," "Without You," "Down," and "Jump into the Fire."

In one scene Harry lays a record needle in the grooves of T.Rex's "Slider" LP and we hear "Chariot Choogle" while the Count puts the bite on a cute chick. The women in the film possess ample breasts and provide enjoyable eye candy. In a later interview, Ringo said parts of the script were rewritten and the actors went back into the studio to re-record their dialog which was laid over the original film footage. Tight budget.

The plot concerns Count Downe, the Son of Dracula, who is to be crowned King of the Netherworld at the Museum of the Occult. The Count falls in a love with a beautiful woman and instead of attending his coronation chooses to undergo an operation to make him human. Harry Nilsson, Ringo Starr, Dennis Price, Suzanna Leigh, Freddie Jones, Rachelle Miller, Klaus Voormann, Keith Moon, Peter Frampton, John Bonham, Leon Russell, Bobby Keyes, Jim Price, Rosanna Lee.

Plus this bonus selection...

U.K. film. A "Mondo" film that captures the seedy side of London in the mid-60s. But there's much more…particularly for aficionados of 1960s rock and roll and youth culture. Yeah.
