THE YOUNG CAPTIVES 1959
U.S. film. Excellent quality. 4:3 aspect ratio. A JD psychopath torments teenage lovers! Jamie, a very bad boy (played by Steven Marlo), is drunk and sleeping at his night-shift job on an oil derrick. Jamie's ticked-off boss catches him passed out and kicks and crushes his cool looking 1958 transistor radio. Bummer.

As Jamie wakes up his boss yells, "You're fired." Jamie picks up the broken radio and you can see in his eyes that this ain't over yet! Jamie is not the kind of guy you should mess with so he swiftly kills his boss with a wrench to the head.

Flash to a southern California beach where teenagers Benjie and Ann (Tom Seldon and Luana Patten) splash in the water and talk about getting married. Benjie is horny, but Ann will only put out when she's married. Benjie convinces her to go to Tijuana and elope. Ann agrees.

Soon they cross paths with Jamie in the middle of nowhere; they agree to take him to a nearby town to meet up with a buddy. At first Jamie seems like a nice guy but then he tells them about his squalid youth on the streets of New York City and mentions that he has a police record.

They stop for breakfast at a classic 50s greasy spoon where there's a shiny Seeburg "R" jukebox next to their table. Jamie says he's going outside to make a phone call but instead disables their car radio–and while he's at it, stabs and kills a hot blonde and stuffs her body in the trunk of a new convertible Cadillac.

Before long Jamie has a knife to Ann's throat while he demands that Benjie drive the car to Tecate, not Tijuana. Meanwhile the cops are after Jamie for killing his boss and the teenage lovers parent's have called the authorities to report them missing.

Steven Marlo, who plays Jamie, delivers an excellent acting performance. You can tell he studied James Dean but doesn't copy Dean's style directly; he gives a very real and gritty performance.

The Young Captives was directed by Irvin Kershner who later directed, "The Empire Strikes Back," "The Eyes of Laura Mars," "A Man Called Horse" and other well-known films. Steven Marlo, Luana Patten, Tom Selden, James Chandler, Ed Nelson, Dan Sheridan, Marjorie Stapp, Dan Blocker, Carol Nelson.

Plus this bonus selection...

DICKCLARK - THIS IS YOUR LIFE 1959
