BEACH PARTY BANDSTAND 1965
AUS. TV show. A very cool episode of Australian TV show, Brian Henderson's National Bandstand that looks at the teenage beach films produced by American International Pictures (AIP) film studios. Guests include: Frankie Avalon and AIP co-founder James H. Nicholson.

Frankie Avalon is in Australia to introduce the AIP films: Beach Party, Beach Blanket Bingo, Pajama Party, Ski Party and Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine. There are film clips and discussion about what goes into making a teenage picture at AIP studios.

Frankie reminisces about his 1959 visit to Australia and he discusses his dramatic roles on TV, working with Bob Hope and the success of his AIP films. James H. Nicholson is interviewed and explains "what exactly a teenage film is" and says that AIP does not strive to create Academy Award winning films. (Ya think!?)

Frankie performs in the studio with the Bandstand Dancers and sings "Lots, Lots More" and "Ski Party." There's film footage of the Hondells singing "The Gasser," Donna Lauren singing "It Only Hurts When I Cry," Annette singing "Pajama Party" and Leslie Gore singing "Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows." National Bandstand was produced at the studios of Sydney's TCN9 and hosted by Brian Henderson.

Plus this bonus selection...

PERSON TO PERSON 1960
U.S. TV show. Frankie Avalon and Fabian are interviewed "live" in Hollywood from the home of their manager, Bob Marcucci. Marcucci's mother (a real old-time Italian "Mama") is charged with taking care of them.

Fabian's pompadour is about a foot and half high! The interviewer, Charles Collingwood, asks them serious questions about Fabian's current movie, Frankie's nightclub act and their competition in the record charts.

They talk about how they met and their fabulous success stories. They get an allowance of $25 a week but it's not enough! As the interview wraps up Mama Marcucci brings them dinner. They wanted steak but it's Friday so she's serving fish! Renowned choreographer Nick Castle teaches the boys some fancy footwork.
