THE BURGLAR 1957
U.S. film. Excellent quality. Widescreen format. The Burglar has two outstanding points going for it…Jayne Mansfield! The Burglar is a late period Noir film that uses some of the best elements of the genre including exquisite lighting, scene composition, and editing. Actually, Mansfield's sex kitten status is very underplayed to good effect; this is her best acting role!

While watching theater newsreels, professional burglar Nat Harbin (Dan Duryea) sees a story about a psychic, Sister Sarah, who has just inherited a fortune, including a necklace worth $150,000. Using flashbacks we learn that Nat has promised to look after Gladden (Jayne Mansfield), the daughter of the man who taught Nat the burglar trade. Nat rounds up his burglar colleagues and his female ward, Gladden, to plan the perfect robbery.

One of several highlights of the film is a lengthy, near real-time sequence during the robbery. Of course things get messy when two cops spot Nat's car at the robbery location, the thieves fight among themselves about how to dispose of the necklace, someone learns of their crime and a New Jersey state trooper is killed.

The Burglar was filmed on location in Atlantic City and Philadelphia in 1955 but not released until 1957 at which time its promotion was geared towards Jayne Mansfield who had just broken through via her role in The Girl Can't Help It.

Very cool footage of Atlantic City's Steel Pier, complete with the famous high diving horse, rides and attractions! Dan Duryea, Jayne Mansfield, Martha Vickers, Peter Capell, Mickey Shaughnessy, Wendell K. Phillips, Phoebe Mackay, Stewart Bradley, John Facenda. The Burglar.

Plus this bonus selection...
