THE STRIP 1951
U.S. film. Cool Hollywood hipster, jazz scene featuring Louis Armstrong and other jazz greats. If there’s such a thing as a musical film noir, this is it! A Hollywood starlet is murdered! The mystery unfolds in a series of flashbacks as told by jazz drummer Stan Maxton (Mickey Rooney).

Stanley moved to Los Angeles with dreams of opening his own club but falls in with a gangster and a cute nightclub dancer and ends up accused of murder. "The Strip" is a true classic in several ways but especially for all the drum solos it contains. Mickey Rooney's drumming is really on display and he’s very good!

Cool visuals include a jalopy loaded with a set of drums, a swanky LA house and furnishings and footage of legendary nightclubs on Sunset Boulevard, including Ciro’s, The Trocadero, The Marquis, The Players, La Rue, Villa Nova, Bublichki, Scandia and The Mocambo Club.

Fascinating footage of 1951 Hollywood and the Sunset Strip. On the Strip there's a large billboard advertising RCA's new 45-rpm record player. It shows the player, a bunch of records and a huge Nipper. Cool!

Songs include: "Shadrack," "Basin Street Blues," "Don't Blame Me," "La Bota," "A Kiss To Build A Dream On." Mickey Rooney, Sally Forrest, William Demarest, James Craig, Kay Brown, Louis Armstrong, Earl 'Fatha' Hines, Jack Teagarden, Barney Bigard, Vic Damone. The Strip!
