Filthy slums, decrepit living conditions and low-life parents seem to be a major contributing factor to the delinquency of Britain's youth in the post-war years.

CHILDREN ON TRIAL 1945
U.K. film. You've heard about how bleak and dreary Liverpool was in the 1950s—well, here's a chance to see for yourself as the camera films real delinquents and home life squalor. Fred is a bad boy with a deadly smirk who leads a gang of JDs. They skip school, hang about in amusement arcades, are rude to authority, and break and enter into a warehouse to steal cigarette lighters. Soon the police arrest Fred.

Next we see a woman probation officer telling Mrs. Reynolds that her 15 yr. old daughter Shirley has been doing naughty things with older men at night down by the docks. Flash to a courtroom where negligent parents are blaming "slum kids" for leading their own "good children" down the wrong path.

Next up is Fred. The court discusses the squalor of his home life, that his mother is an unfit parent and that his father disappeared many years ago. Fred is off to reform school for 3 years! Children On Trial follows Fred, Shirley and others through the reform school system. It's is a proper film—not an "educational short" and it's very good!

CHILDREN OF THE CITY 1944

U.K. short film. A look at juvenile delinquency in Scotland. Boys and girls under 17 commit one out of every ten crimes and the police in this film are out the stop them. Poverty and squalor are rampant—low-life parents and hard knock lives seem to be the primary cause of delinquency.

YOUTH CLUB 1954

U.K. short film. Amusement halls loaded with pinball machines and huge clouds of cigarette smoke do not provide a setting for the development of decent contributing members of society. Britain's youth clubs however, keep kids out of trouble and produce fine, upstanding young citizens.

A CHANCE FOR BRIAN 1977
U.K. short film. Brian is truant from school, disobeys his mum and is generally on a path to nowhere. But thanks to Project 870 Brian is given a chance. He moves into a special home where the kids dance to disco music and become rehabilitated in under 10 minutes.

SNATCH OF THE DAY 1975
U.K. short film. Beware of pickpockets they can be anywhere! We see a master at work in Piccadilly Circus robbing unsuspecting passersbys. Then we're shown how teams work together to pick your pocket. Is this a training film?

BICYCLE THEFTS 1974
U.K. short film. When you leave it, lock it! That's the message here as theft victims have difficulty describing their stolen bikes to the police. In the end even a cop has his bicycle stolen!
