THE CRUEL STORY OF YOUTH 1960
JPN film. (a.k.a. Naked Youth). This is a real low-down and seedy JD film about two Japanese teenagers on a downward spiral to nowhere. It's more sexually charged and adult themed than any 1950s or 1960s teenage JD movie made in the U.S. or Europe.

Mako, a cute teenager, is hitchhiking when an old man offers her a ride. She accepts but the man tries to rape her. Luckily a teenage boy named Kiyoshi is nearby and quickly runs over to save her. Afterward, Kiyoshi and Mako walk along a filthy waterfront while talking about sex. He tries to kiss her, she slaps him, and he tosses her into the water. She screams that she can't swim but Kiyoshi steps on her fingers as she tries to pull herself out.

Later, Kiyoshi again saves Mako—this time from scummy pimps who want her to turn tricks. After rescuing her, Kiyoshi again forces himself on her…and thus begins their sordid romance and downward spiral.

Before long Mako quits school and moves into Kiyoshi's wretched dive of an apartment. Living in a down-and-out world outside of "normal society" they make money by blackmailing businessmen and extorting Kiyoshi's middle-aged Sugar Mama. But, it gets worse! Soon Mako gets an abortion in a dilapidated clinic, performed by an alcoholic doctor. The ending has to be the most shocking of any JD film ever made!

There are several bar scenes with rock 'n' roll playing. Teenagers are jiving away when a fight breaks out with some very hard face punching. Lots of cigarette smoking.
