"Rock & Rock" is probably one of the best documentary series ever produced on the history of rock and roll. It's a 10 episode series that traces rock and roll's beginnings in the '40s and '50s up until the mid 1990s. This title contains episodes 1 and 2.

EPISODE 1 : RENEGRADES
1995 documentary. Renegades travels southern back roads to New Orleans, Memphis and Nashville, then up north to Chicago, interviewing Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, pioneer disk jockey Hoss Allen and producers Dave Bartholomew, Sam Philips and Phil and Marshall Chess along the way.

These renegades of the 1950s reveal how they borrowed from rhythm & blues, country, gospel, and jazz to create a new sound – rock and roll. Awesome vintage footage of Fats Domino, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Muddy Waters and others.

Other interviews include: Rufus Thomas, Lloyd Price, Ike Turner, Scotty Moore, Jack Clement, Paul Burlison, and Johnnie Johnson. Factoid: The success of "Rocket 88," recorded at Sam Phillips' Memphis Recording Service, convinced him to start his own record label – Sun Records

EPISODE 2 : IN THE GROOVE
1995 documentary. In The Groove reports on the years between Elvis and the Beatles, when the 45 hit single became an intricately crafted work of art and producers, songwriters and musicians created studio magic. In interviews with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Ben E. King, Brian Wilson, Carole King, Sonny Bono, and "king of the surf guitar" Dick Dale among others, this episode recounts the era of sweet soul and girl groups when a new rock genius reigned – the producer.

Producers Leiber and Stoller, Phil Spector and Brian Wilson are showcased. Awesome vintage footage of the Coasters, Ben E. King, Elvis, Shirelles, Marvelettes, Dixie Cups, Ronettes, the Righteous Brothers and others. Other interviews include: Tom Dowd, Jeff Barry, Larry Levine, Bill Medley and others. Factoid: Leiber and Stoller wrote a song called "Colored Folks" for the Coasters (Jerry Leiber sings a few lines) that Coasters refused to record.
