TEEN TOWN 1965
U.S. TV show. A very special episode of this interracial, Detroit-based, 60s teen dance show that salutes the Motown Record Corporation through words, music and film! Musical performances by the Marvelettes, the Supremes, the Temptations, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles and Stevie Wonder. Host Robin Seymour interviews Berry Gordy about the history of Motown and shows fabulous film footage of behind the scenes at Hitsville U.S.A. Teen Town!

Plus this bonus selection...

APOLLO PRESENTS MOTORTOWN REVUE 1963
U.S. TV. Early Motown live! Very interesting to see these artists rough around the edges—before they went to "charm school" and became polished and sophisticated. Marvin Gaye, the Supremes, Little Stevie Wonder (12-yrs. old), the Contours, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas, the Marvelettes, Mary Wells, the Four Tops, the Temptations and others. 1960s black soul and rhythm & blues revue!

Motown at The Apollo Rocks Review by Willie Bee

Both the Teen Town show and The Apollo film are worth seeing, but the Apollo film is just non-stop excellence. The Contours begin with a high-energy performance, followed by The Supremes, who obviously had not had a hit yet - they contribute one forgettable song to the evening. Marvin Gaye is an audience favorite and briefly dances with an audience member. The best performances are by The Marvelettes, who perform several songs; the audience loves them. I’d hoped this would be the Apollo performance where they sang “Tossin' and Turnin',” but no such luck. Excellent performance though! Mary Wells performs backed by (according to the MC) The Temptations! Smokey Robinson and The Miracles perform several songs (Smokey's wife is there as one of The Miracles). Stevie Wonder closes. Fast-paced, one-hour TV production. (Posted on 4/16/21)
