THE SIDEHACKERS (a.k.a. FIVE THE HARD WAY) 1969
U.S. film. Filmed in FantaScope. "The producers wish to thank the "Southern California Sidehack Association." Really?! Sidehacking, also known as "sidecar motocross racing," is a form of motorcycle racing where each cycle has a sidehack or "sidecar," in which a rider/passenger throws his body weight from side to side in order to keep the cycle from flipping over as it speeds around turns. The rider/passengers stand, lean and hang off the edge with their butts almost touching the ground in order to avoid tipping over.

The plot goes something like this: motorcycle racer Rommel and his fiancée Rita become friendly with a biker gang led by the unstable J.C. When Rita is raped and murdered by J.C. in a jealous rage, Rommel gathers some biker pals and goes on a hunt for vengeance.

The characters names imply power and stupidity: Rommel, J.C., Nero, and Cooch, Crapout, Dirty John. Nice. Psychedelic, West Coast rock band, The New Life are heard on the soundtrack. Songs include: "Five The Hard Way," "Sidehacker," "Psychedelic Rape," and "I Wanna Cry." The New Life were formed from the ashes of another band, The Cindermen, who were a garage band signed by Moonglow Records in 1965. Ross Hagen, Diane McBain, Michael Pataki, Richard Merrifield, Claire Polan, Edward Parrish.

Plus this bonus selection...

OPIE'S GROUP 1967
U.S. TV. Nov-6-67. Andy Griffith show. Opie joins a beat combo called "The Sound Committee"-they rock. Clifford tells Opie he can't act like a kid anymore by saying things like "Oh Boy," and "Neato." In no time he's a hip dude grooving on the far out scene and making it with the cool chicks.
