THE TIGER AND THE PUSSYCAT (a.k.a. IL TIGRE) 1967
IT. film. Excellent quality. Complete. Un-Cut. (Other English language versions on the web are NOT complete.) Color. Filmed in Rome. Great 1960s vibe. Italian garage-beat music by I Rollini (The Rollers). Ann-Margret plays her roll to perfection…a man-eating, nubile sex kitten with a mean streak.

A corporate executive's son tries to commit suicide because a girl (Ann Margret as "Carolina") won't love him. The boy's father remembers Carolina as an ugly duckling and can't believe his son would try to kill himself over her. When he visits Carolina's home to inform the mother that her daughter was responsible for his son's near suicide, he becomes mesmerized by Carolina's sensual beauty and flirtatious moves.

The Tiger and the Pussycat follows the misadventures of the 45-year-old executive (Vittorio Gassman as Francesco) as he pursues his desire to be young and have an affair with sex kitten Carolina. There are many stand out scenes that make this film a wonderful swinging sixties piece. Look for a wild go-go discotheque scene filmed in Rome's famous "Piper Club" where the 1960s Italian beat group I Rollini (The Rollers) perform "La Parte del Leone" (The Lion's Share) while the entire room, and Ann-Margret in particular, dance wildly with hair-flailing body contortions.

Another scene has Ann-Margret in near orgasmic spasms as she watches I Rollini perform "Se Batte Forte" (If You Are Pounding) on TV. There are several humorous, short dream sequences where we can see Francesco's thoughts. During the rock group on TV scene, Francesco imagines himself in the group and we see him in a mop-top wig wearing rock star fashions while singing and playing guitar…and drums.

English dialog. Some secondary characters are speaking in Italian with their dialog dubbed in English. All the main characters are speaking in English. Some reviews of The Tiger and the Pussycat describe the film as ho-hum. We strongly disagree and suggest that those reviewers simply don't get it and have little appreciation for sixties sensibilities. The Tiger and the Pussycat is entertaining, fun, poignant and sad. The characters have depth and are not one-note caricatures. Ann-Margret does a beautiful job torturing the soul of poor Francesco. Highly recommended.

Vittorio Gassman, Ann-Margret, Eleanor Parker, Fiorenzo Fiorentini, Antonella Steni, Luigi Vannucchi, Caterina Boratto, Jacques Herlin, Eleonora Brown, Nino Segurini, Giambattista Salerno.
