GIRL OF THE NIGHT 1961
U.S. film. Excellent quality. Filmed on location in New York City. Girl Of The Night is the film adaptation of Dr. Harold Greenwald's 1958 social and psychoanalytic study entitled, "The Call Girl." In his study, Dr. Greenwald analyzed 26 real-life prostitutes to learn of their childhood experiences and piece together the conditions that made them "girls of the night."

Anne Francis plays "Bobbie," a young woman who as a child was molested and made to feel worthless. She was told, "sex is an evil and dirty thing." Now at 24 years old, she is manipulated by her boyfriend/pimp.

After being beaten by a customer, (while her boyfriend/pimp who was supposed to be protecting her sat in a bar flirting with a young girl named Lisa), Bobbie agrees to a one-time talk with psychologist Dr. Mitchell (Lloyd Nolan). Reluctantly, she reveals to Dr. Mitchell that she is a high-priced prostitute. Bobbie agrees to a few sessions with the doctor and tells her story. We see several scenes of Bobbie's past.

"Madame" Rowena Claiborne, who sets up "dates" for prostitutes, persuades young Lisa to join Bobbie on a night out with two wealthy clients. One of the men threatens Lisa, who flinches back in fear and falls through a window to her death. Rather than sympathize, the boyfriend/pimp beats Bobbie for costing them future earnings.

Back with Dr. Mitchell, they work to understand that the suppressed memories and problems of her childhood need to be fought for her to be a productive member of society. The first step is to loosen her boyfriend/pimp's emotional grip. Anne Francis, Lloyd Nolan, Kay Medford, John Kerr, Arthur Storch, James Broderick, Lauren Gilbert, Eileen Fulton, Julius Monk, Judy Tucker.
