BAND.STAND 1964
Sep-9-64. U.S. TV show. AB episode from when the Beatles were in Los Angeles in '64. Tons of Beatle mentions and footage from Hollywood Bowl. Contest to win towels, pillow cases, etc. used by the Beatles. In-person performances by black vocal group The Superbs (dressed in all black leather!), and Ray Peterson plus interviews. Cool mod-looking teens dance "The Swim" sung by The Daisies. Rate-A- Record segment. The kids dance to songs by The Beatles, Marvin Gaye, Johnny Rivers, Peter & Gordon and others. Dick sits with the kids and talks about The Beatles, etc. Classic TV episode.

THE DONNA REED SHOW 1965
“The Combo” Dec-9-65. Jeff’s groovy rock n roll group plays a teen party and a cute babe asks them if they plan to make a record. Hey, great idea! The boys scramble to raise money to buy recording equipment. The group rehearses in Jeff’s garage and their song, “I Want To Be Free,” sounds like a cross between the Monkees, Association with a touch of Soul. (How’d they do that?!) The group decides to form a record company and sells shares of stock to all the cool kids on campus. In the end their shipment of 45s gets left out in sun and they all become warped. They decide to sell them as rock n roll boomerangs! Paul Petersen, Darryl Richard, Jimmy Hawkins, Gary Waynesmith. Must see TV!
