DON'T KNOCK THE ROCK 1956

Triple Feature!

DON'T KNOCK THE ROCK 1956
U.S. film. Follow-up to "Rock Around The Clock." Alan Freed, Bill Haley and his Comets, Little Richard and the Upsetters, the Treniers, Alan Dale, Dave Appell and his Applejacks. A rock and roll star returns to his hometown to find that rock and roll has been banned by disapproving adults who say "rock and roll is for morons!" This is the film that introduced Little Richard to a mass audience. During a jitterbug dance scene a female dancer is tossed in the air…and not caught! They left her fall in the film. Classic 1950s rock and roll film. Alan Dale, Patricia Hardy, Alan Freed, Fay Baker, Jana Lund, Pierre Watkin. Don't Knock The Rock!

Plus these bonus selections...

LITTLE RICHARD: PORTRAIT OF A LEGEND 1977
U.S. TV show. Hosted by James Darren. An examination of Little Richard's on again, off again relationship with Rock and Roll, God and Religion! Little Richard talks about singing while washing dishes at a Greyhound bus station. Then one day he met Lloyd Price and fell in love with his Cadillac and knew he wanted to be a rock and roll star! When he was 19 he cut his first record. He talks about snorting $1000 worth of cocaine a day! He said he used to fire guys in his band for taking drugs—meanwhile he was mixing cocaine and heroin! He talks about quitting rock and roll (twice!) for the Lord. In addition to his many hits, he sings, "I Saw Her Standing There." Interviews: Little Richard, Bumps Blackwell.

BIG JOE TURNER TRIBUTE 1986
U.S. TV show. "CBS Sunday Morning" hosted by Charles Kuralt pays tribute the day after Joe died. Replay of 1982 piece, "The Boss of The Blues." Great history of Joe and Kansas City Blues. Billie Holiday, Doc Pomus.
