U.S. film. Chubby Checker once offered instructions on how to do the twist: "Put out a cigarette with both feet and wipe your bottom with a towel". Using archival film footage and interviews, this documentary examines the history of the Twist dance craze and the overlooked role of blacks in producing American pop culture. Other dances are examined including the Swim, the Jerk, the Watusi, the Hully Gully, the Hucklebuck, the Fly, the Frug, the Milly, the Monkey and several others. Interviews include Hank Ballard, Joey Dee, Chubby Checker, Gary "U.S." Bonds, several Bandstand "regulars" and others.

The teen dance "The Swim" is introduced and sung by The Daisies. Rate-A-Record segment. Music by The Beatles, Marvin Gaye, Johnny Rivers, Peter & Gordon and others. Dick sits with the kids and talks about current fashions, trends, the Beatles, etc.
