UP THE JUNCTION 1967
U.K. film. Cool working-class mods on scooters. "What's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?" Polly, an upper-class Chelsea girl decides to relieve the boredom of her plush lifestyle by slumming in a working-class section of London called Battersea. She takes a job in a sweet factory and soon makes friends with her co-workers Rube and Sylvie. Polly soon discovers the seedy side of life when Rube becomes pregnant and, due to abortion being illegal, accompanies Rube to see a back-street abortionist. Polly's social climb-down becomes complicated when she falls for a nineteen year old second-hand furniture assistant, who aspires to become rich and leave Battersea forever. The film centers on the relationship between the two and their conflicting ambitions. Movie version of the BBC TV play
