PETULIA 1968
U.S. film. Richard Lester's Petulia is a love story told in a nonlinear fashion that bounces back and forth in time. George C. Scott plays a newly divorced surgeon who meets a charming "kook" of a young woman, Petulia (Julie Christie). He falls into an affair with her only to discover that she is married. Set against the flower-power scene of 1967 San Francisco, the film features performances by the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin-Big Brother and the Holding Company and captures a sense of the confusion caused by the youth quake that swept the nation in the 60s. Scene of special note: The Grateful Dead perform “Viola Lee Blues” at an “Acid Test” with multimedia light show effects. Members of “The Dead” show up in a couple of scenes. Hip soundtrack by John Barry. Very '60's. Very stylish. Very under-rated. Julie Christie, George C. Scott, Richard Chamberlain, Arthur Hill, Shirley Knight, Howard Hesseman. Petulia!
Bonus Selection: Swingin' 60s Newsreels.
