JAMES BATMAN 1966

JAMES BATMAN 1966
PH. film. Holy Filipino spoof film, Batman! What do you get when you mix James Bond and Batman? You get James Batman! Out of the Philippines comes this outrageous comedy, spoof film where Batman, Robin, and James Bond join forces to battle an evil syndicate that is holding the world ransom with a nuclear weapon. Actually, Batman and Bond can't stand each other and are detested by the thought of working together. But, for the safety of mankind they decide to join forces. Through thick and thin they survive the syndicate's plan to do away with them. They get close to stopping the syndicate, but it appears there is a traitor in their midst. Will this deter our heroes from achieving their goal?

Rodolfo Vera Quizon, beloved film actor of the Philippines, and known affectionately as, "Dolphy," star as both James Bond and Batman in this strange twist on the pop culture icons. Batman and Robin are modeled after the hit U.S. TV series. Bond is sort-of modeled on the Sean Connery character – except instead of wearing finely tailored tuxedos, Dolphy's Bond wears hideous, ill-fitting, checked sport coats and cheap hats. Batman's costume is reasonably accurate, except for a striped cape and a weird symbol on his chest in place of the usual bat. The Boy Wonder's costume looks like it was purchased at a Halloween costume shop. The Bat Mobile is highly exaggerated (as if the original wasn’t!) and looks very cool!

Many fight scenes where the action looks more like martial arts than Hollywood fighting. Batman and Robin are hungry and grab a quick bite-to-eat. Batman slyly wipes his mouth on Robin's cape! While this film was in theaters Dolphy had a gig as audience warm-up for the Beatles' one and only concert in the Philippines. The familiar "Bond" and "Batman" theme songs sound like garage band arrangements. Dolphy, Boy Alano, Shirley Moreno, Diane Balen, Elsa Boufard, Nori Dalisay, Johnny Ysmael Jr., Bella Flores, Lyn D'Arce, Joy Del Sol, Tessie Concepcion, Jose Morelos, Ven Medina, Willie Dado, Jimmy Javier. [In Tagalog with No Subtitles.] James Batman!
