HOLLYWOOD BARN DANCE 1947
U.S. film. Tons of songs! Ernest Tubb and His Texas Troubadours. Jack Guthrie sings "Oakie Boogie." As a teenager Ernest Tubb and his friends, brothers Leon and Jimmie Short and Jack T. Drake, are forced to play their songs in barns because their parents don't approve of their music. When the parents put a stop to playing in barns, Ernest suggests they practice in the local church. When the group accidentally burns the church down, Ernest decides to leave Texas and take the group on the road to Los Angeles to earn enough money to rebuild the church.

Their adventures on the way to Hollywood include an almost disastrous stop-over in Las Vegas. In Los Angeles they audition for the Hollywood Barn Dance radio show and are a huge success.

Jack Guthrie's version of "Oakie Boogie" (Capitol 341) reached #3 on the charts in 1947 and is often included on the list of the first rock and roll songs. This is the only film appearance of Jack Guthrie performing "Oakie Boogie."
