CAT BURGLAR, THE 1961 + DANCE HALL RACKET 1953

Double Feature!

THE CAT BURGLAR 1961
U.S. film. Very rare movie. International espionage, spies, secret formulas, a hot jazz soundtrack and our favorite 1950s B-movie stars! While burglarizing Nan Baker's apartment, Jack Coley, a cat burglar, steals a briefcase that belongs to Nan's boyfriend, Alan Sheridan. Uh-oh! This briefcase contains a top secret defense formula which Alan plans to sell to foreign spies. When Alan is unsuccessful in recovering the documents, his bosses murder him and go after Jack. Realizing the significance of the papers and refusing to commit treason, Jack prepares for an attack.

Fans of the character "Kirby" from "Combat" will not be disappointed to see Jack Hogan, as Jack the Cat Burglar delivering a fine performance. Featuring 1950s B-movie favorites June Kenney, Bruno VeSoto and teenage hot-rodder Tommy Ivo. Directed by Roger Corman's brother, Gene Corman (and it feels like a "Corman" film). Excellent jazz score by Billy Bregman that contributes to the film's slinky, downtown, after-hours atmosphere. June Kenney plays Nan Baker (which is kind of weird because in Roger Corman's "Teenage Doll" Kenney delivers the line, "I killed Nan Baker!") Jack Hogan, June Kenney, Bruno VeSota, Billie Bird, Tommy Ivo, John Baer, Gregg Palmer, Will J. White, Gene Roth. The Cat Burglar!

DANCE HALL RACKET 1953
U.S. film. Dance Hall Racket is the only dramatic film performance of legendary outlaw comic Lenny Bruce, who also wrote the screenplay. The film is a vehicle for Bruce, his stripper wife Honey Harlow, and his mother Sally Marr, a burlesque comedian who introduced Lenny to show business. The story centers on "Scalley's Dance Emporium," a joint where anything goes. Curvaceous women, switchblade fights, jitterbug dancing, and even a diamond smuggling operation. Lenny Bruce plays "Vincent," a man whose talents include planting blades in the bellies of men who get too fresh with the girls. Also stars Timothy Farrell, a veteran of several Edward D. Wood Jr. films. Timothy Farrell, Lenny Bruce, Honey Bruce Friedman, Sally Marr, Joie Abrams, Bunny Parker. Dance Hall Racket!
