HOT ROD 1950
U.S. film. One of the earliest hot rod movies. A teenager loves hot rods! His father is the town judge and he hates ‘em! Eventually the teen gets a '32 roadster. But when one of his high school hot rod pals shuts him down while on a date with his best chick, it's a total putdown and he retaliates by souping up his rod! Trouble ensues. Then redemption and a happy ending! Cool scenes: five car hot rod street race and footage of dry lakes racing at El Mirage. James Lydon, Art Baker, Gil Strattion, Gloria Winters, Myron Healy, Tommy Bond ("Butch" from "Our Gang" series). Hot Rod!

ROAD RUNNERS 1952
U.S. educational film. Teenage punk hot rodders become law-abiding gear heads after joining adult-supervised racing clubs. “Mel" is a hot-rodder who discovers the Santa Ana drag strip and Lake El Mirage timing trials and ends up in hot rod heaven! The narrator tells us that, these racing clubs provide a "safe and constructive outlet," and help mitigate the "juvenile nuisance problem. Trophies now instead of traffic tickets! He'll never speed on the highway again!" Terrific shots of homemade hot rods.

This is probably one of the best films dealing with hot rods and drag racing. Featuring Wally Parks, president of NHRA; Robert Petersen, publisher of Hot Rod Magazine and several others.
