THE SEVEN MINUTES 1971
U.S. film. Great quality. 4:3 aspect ratio. Russ Meyer's only serious film (i.e., female breasts are not key to the film's appeal) is about the evils of censorship. A bookstore sells a copy of a notorious erotic novel entitled,
The Seven Minutes, to a teenager who is later arrested for rape.
A prosecutor on a crusade against pornography, and preparing for an upcoming election, seizes upon this as an opportunity to have the book declared obscene while bringing charges against the bookstore.
Set among a groovy '70s backdrop that is nostalgic and filled with vivid authenticity, the film centers on the court case that spurs a public debate about pornography, censorship, violence against women and the dual standards during a time when morality was ambiguous. Sounds just like today.
Wayne Maunder, Marianne McAndrew, Philip Carey, Yvonne De Carlo, Wolfman Jack, Jackie Gayle, John Carradine, Tom Selleck, Ron Randell, Lynn Hamilton.
