THE WOODY ALLEN SPECIAL 1969
U.S. TV special. Sep-21-69. Kraft Music Hall presents: The Woody Allen Special, a one-time only eccentric bit of television hasn't been seen since originally airing in 1969.

Woody's guests include: The 5th Dimension, Billy Graham and Candice Bergen. Program highlights include: an opening monologue, a skit with Woody and Candice Bergen as young actors auditioning for a play that shows the contemporary problems in New York theater—having to work in the nude!

The 5th Dimension performs, "Workin' On A Groovy Thing" and "Wedding Bell Blues." A skit with Woody and Candice in the style of an old silent movie love story entitled, "Cupid's Shaft." Another skit features Woody as a Rabbi. Somehow Woody looks perfect as a Rabbi.

The most interesting segment features a sit-down with Woody and the reverend Billy Graham. Billy tries to tell Woody about God and Woody, well, he's got his own views. In one typical exchange Woody says that he doesn't use any type of drug and Graham admits to drinking coffee and says he need's Woody's help to quit. Woody says, "Yes, if you have faith in me, I will lead you."

U.S. TV special. Dec-27-67. Kraft Music Hall presents: "Wood Allen Looks at 1967." Woody's unique take on the events of 1967. Guests include: Liza Minnelli, Aretha Franklin, John Byner and William F. Buckley Jr.

Program highlights include: an opening monologue (Woody say's he tried to enlist but the draft board burned his draft card!). A skit with Liza Minnelli, John Byner and Woody arguing about Liza's groovy mini skirt being too short and the trend of adults adopting youth culture clothing styles.

Aretha Franklin performs" "Respect" and "Chain of Fools." Liza Minnelli performs: "Feeling Groovy." A skit where a Hollywood director reminisces about the decline of an aging child star, "Baby Bobby Dimple." Woody is Baby Bobby Dimple.

Woody gets into it with conservative William F. Buckley Jr. Woody takes a tragically liberal position and William F. Buckley Jr. takes the hard right. A skit re-telling the year's big hit film, "Bonny and Clyde." Woody in the Warren Beatty role is hilarious. Note: This quality of this special is somewhat below our usual high standard but is still very watchable and enjoyable.
