CHECKPOINT 1956
U.K. film. Great quality. 4:3 asect ratio. "120 MPH on a Road Built for an Ox Cart!" Colorful Italian locations and gorgeous eye-candy sports cars are the real stars of Checkpoint.

A man breaks into a racing car factory and attempts to steal design plans to ensure his company wins the upcoming race. But things go badly and he kills a security guard and several cops who responded to a triggered burglar alarm. The factory then catches fire. Later, the man enters the race and threatens his driver with a gun. It ends with a real cliffhanger! Literally.

Fantastic footage of motor racing from a time when racing cars were driven 160 mph on public roads with huge crowds lining the edge of routes and minimal safety precautions. Checkpoint uses lots of footage from the Italian Mille Miglia (which was discontinued in 1957 due to too many spectator and driver deaths).

Period cars on display include: 1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce, 1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 MkI, 1955 Ermini 357, 1954 Fairthorpe Atom, 1956 Ferrari 250 GT, 1953 Ferrari 340 MM Spider, 1956 Fiat 1100 TV Trasformabile, 1953 Gordini Type 26, 1954 Lagonda DP115, 1953 Lancia Appia, 1956 Maserati 200S, 1953 Osca, 1954 Triumph TR2, and many others.

Anthony Steel, Odile Versois, Stanley Baker, James Robertson Justice, Maurice Denham, Michael Medwin, Paul Muller, Lee Patterson, Anne Heywood.

Plus this bonus selection...

ON THE RUN 1956
U.S. Automobile Safety Film. Four San Francisco Bay Area high schools participate in the Mobil Economy Run, a race whose objective is to drive around the city within a designated time period while avoiding penalties like speeding or violating traffic laws.

The teenage drivers are accompanied by professional racecar drivers, who give the teens advice on how to drive safely and save gas. Look for: Teens driving around San Francisco in vintage hot rods, street rods, and rat rods. Teen hairstyles and fashions. Teenagers jiving in a malt shop with a rockin' tune on the jukebox. Terrific bay area footage from Tiburon, California St., Chinatown, the Embarcadero, Mt. Sutro, Twin Peaks, the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge.
