THE AFFLUENT TEENAGER 1965
U.S. documentary. A very cool look at the San Francisco Bay Area teenage scene in 1965! It centers on a Teenage Fair held at the Fairmount Hotel and the San Mateo fairgrounds. One of the film's messages is that marketers are having a dream come true with this new teenage phenomenon called, "baby boomers." At the Teen Fair, teenage tastemakers, trendsetters, and leaders of the pack from Bay Area high schools are invited to see and give feedback on new and in-development products; everything from clothes, hair styles, music, cars, etc. Look for Rodney Bingenheimer bobbing his head and clapping his hands to the local Mexican-looking, Fender-playing garage group! DJ and Autumn Records founder Tom Donahue spins records in a glass both. Lots of groups! Terrific garage rock and roll!

AUSTRALIA'S TEENAGE SCENE 1966
AUS. This excellent documentary on Melbourne's mod "teen and 20 set" provides an overview of music, fashion, sex, and the youth scene. Look for: girls who complain about their parents and say that teens want sex. A visit to a recording studio for a session by 16-year-old, Lynne Randell where they are looking for "now sounds." Cool discotheque scenes where the youth dance wildly to a live band. A visit to a private hair salon where boys discuss how they want their hair and get mod styled haircuts.

There's a fascinating interview with Carol West, teen pop star manager, where she cynically explains that for teens to become famous they need to, "do what they are told." They must "con the people" into believing they are stars. She talks about her boy stars' pagan lifestyle of having sex with groupies (!!!) and how her stars become big-headed.

There's a look inside a mod fashion shop where the owner travelled to Carnaby St in London and copied everything exactly in his Melbourne shop. They sell what's "in" and "mod gear" for the "go set." We see a "go-go girl dancing school" where the girls are taught to properly shake their head and emphasize their breasts. The camera almost bangs into one!

"IN" GEAR 1967
U.K. newsreel. It's the swinging London fashion scene on parade. This British newsreel presents an eye-candy array of dazzling and colorful pop mod fashions! Suits, shirts, pants, shoes, boots, jackets, dresses, belts, bags, hats, caps, ties, skirts, blouses, scarves, dickies, and more! Mary Quant shows off her latest collection! The viewer is taken to King's Road, SOHO, and Carnaby Street to visit some of the shops that supply the groovy gear. Next, it's off to the discotheque club scene where the "in" gear is worn. Groovy '60s pop music soundtrack!
