THE CARELESS YEARS 1957
U.S. film. Teenage sex and parental morals clash in this 1950s teen film about an upper-middle class girl and a working class boy who go too far! Two Los Angeles teenage boys crash a house party where all the cats and kittens are jitterbug dancing. One of the boys, Jerry (Dean Stockwell), meets and falls for Emily (Natalie Trundy).

Jerry invites Emily to a beach party where he tries to "make out" with her—she says no, but they soon become more than friends. Before long they fall in love and find it increasingly difficult to control their sexual urges, although the moral values they have been taught help to restrain them.

When Emily's parents leave on a weekend trip, she and Jerry have dinner at her house and Jerry tells her that he wants to make love to her. Then, in high school history class Jerry passes a note to Emily saying he wants to marry her.

Both sets of parents object to a marriage and urge the kids to have patience, but when Emily is told she is to take a long summer vacation with her parents (to get her away from Jerry), he talks her into going to Mexico to get married right away. There is an intense scene with Jerry and his father having a fist fight in front of Emily. Lots of scenes filmed at Santa Monica high school.

Dean Stockwell looks like James Dean! Barbara "June Cleaver" Billingsley wears her pearl necklaces that she always wore in "Leave It To Beaver!" The songs "The Careless Years" and "Butterfingers Baby" are sung by Sue Raney. Dean Stockwell, Natalie Trundy, John Larch, Barbara Billingsley, John Stephenson, Maureen Cassidy, Alan Dinehart III, Virginia Christine.

Plus these bonus short films...

HOW MUCH AFFECTION? 1958
U.S. educational film. Mary, a teenage girl, is upset because she and Jeff have just found themselves on the verge of going "too far!" Mary's mom tells her to "slow down" so that she can exercise "judgment rather than emotion."

GOING STEADY? 1951
U.S. educational film. Teenagers Jeff and Marie have aimlessly drifted into a relationship where Jeff simply shows up at the door whenever he wants. This film was made to discourage teenagers from drifting into premarital sex.
