THUNDER IN CAROLINA (a.k.a. HARD DRIVIN') 1960
U.S. film. Excellent quality. Widescreen. Color. Classic stock-car racing film made for the southern drive-in movie circuit. Mitch, a veteran dirt-track stock car driver, tears up the tracks until he finally takes a spill that nearly totals his 1957 Chevy #8 and breaks his ankle in the process. Broke and busted Mitch is befriended by Les who offers him a place to stay and helps him repair his Chevy.

They get the car repaired but Mitch's ankle is still busted so he teaches Les how to drive and he quickly makes a name for himself on the stock car circuit with Mitch as his mechanic. A sub-plot has Mitch making moves on Les's hot-pants-wearing wife. As a result Les leaves Mitch and they end up competing against one another at the big Darlington 500 race.

Beautifully filmed vintage racing footage! Thunder in Carolina includes loads of hair-raising scenes from South Carolina's Darlington 500, scenes of crews prepping cars, a street festival, some risky practice driving through the Carolina mountains, and exciting race footage shot from a car-mounted camera. Cool scenes of the aerodynamic speed trick called "drafting." Exciting surprise ending!
