SGT. PEPPER'S MUSICAL REVOLUTION
U.K. documentary. Sgt. Pepper's Musical Revolution is a look back at the creation, and ongoing influence, of the revolutionary 1967 Beatles album, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band."

Highlights include rare photos and video footage. We also get to hear alternate takes and individual tracks as each song is dissected and analyzed. Here's an example: On an isolated handclap track the Beatles can be heard talking while clapping and that is the actual track on the record—but when layered on multi-track song creations, their talking voices aren't noticed. (But they're there!)

We also get to hear the two separate (different tempos and keys) takes of "Strawberry Fields Forever" that were (amazingly) joined together to create the song we know today. There are many more enlightening musical revelations as each song is examined. The remarkable thing is that many recording techniques that are taken for granted today were actually created in the studio during the creation of Sgt. Peppers.

There is some music theory, too, counterpoint and modulation are explained and demonstrated. After watching this put on the record and you might hear things you never noticed before.

I had it on a DVR that died & I've looked for this since it first aired. It was nowhere to be found. Now I've finally got t on DVD. The picture is crystal clear and (most importantly) the sound is just perfect. There are never before heard outtakes and snippets of conversation that are just incredible for long-time fans to hear. The Video Beat is the best! Thank you so much! (Posted on 6/30/19)
