The mid-sixties TV talk-show circuit was brimming with pop culture celebrities who were the tastemakers and thought leaders for the 1960s youth generation. These rare and fascinating interviews touch on topics including 1960s music, art, drugs, and television.

PHIL SPECTOR (1ST APPEARANCE)
Sep-8-65. Introduced as "The Teenager's King," Phil Spector demonstrates his particular (peculiar?) brand of repartee that causes cringing in the audience. Phil demonstrates his LSD eyeglasses and shares inside jokes with...himself! He talks about Karate, Vietnam, Watts Riots, the music business and three-quarters of the way through nobody has a clue what he's talking about. Highly entertaining!

ANDY WARHOL
Oct-6-65. Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick are introduced as the leaders in Pop Art, Op Art and Underground films and are described as the two leading exponents of the new scene. Andy won't be talking this evening; he whispers his answers to Edie, she then tells us. It sounds weird, it is, but it's interesting and informative. Topics includes the "Superstars," Campbell's Soup cans, parties in the subway, and more.

PHIL SPECTOR (2ND APPEARANCE)
Oct-21-65. This one is even weirder than his first appearance. Phil was not scheduled to be a guest on the show but, nonetheless, he walks out of the audience and looking rather scruffy takes a seat on the stage and begins to argue with actor Phil Foster who takes none of Phil's eccentricities in good humor and instead insults the heck out of him. Phil says, "The new Beatles song was written just for you...Nowhere Man." Phil then storms off the set.

DR. TIMOTHY LEARY
Jul-18-66. LSD was not made illegal in America until October 1966 so while this panel is discussing LSD it is something of wonder and not the horrible, evil drug it would soon become. Everyone is still interested in LSD's believed ability to make you more aware and tuned-in to the universe. Leary says 15-20% of undergrad and graduate students are exploring their consciousness by taking LSD. He says artists and philosophers have been taking drugs going back 1000 years and that he's taken LSD 311 times.

DR. HENRY BRILL
Jul-20-66. As a counter-point to Dr. Timothy Leary, Dr. Henry Brill is the voice of your mother and father telling you that LSD is harmful, dangerous and will lead to no good. But other guests on the show say they have taken it and gained insight into themselves.

ADAM WEST AND BURT WARD
Feb-4-66. The super hit TV-series Batman is peaking in the American consciousness and guests Adam West and Burt Ward discuss all things Bat-related. It's a Bat World after all! We find out that children want to brush their teeth when in the TV series Batman explains to Robin the importance of good dental hygiene.

DENNIS HOPPER
Oct-28-71. Wow. Actor and director Dennis Hopper says "man" a million times, man! Fresh off completing his current film "The Last Movie," Dennis Hopper appears to be a stoned-out hippie, man. Dennis explains his career trajectory as a bohemian who became a beatnik, then a hippie and now he's straight. (Not!) He's on a personal trip, man, like we all are...but then he hears an echo and forgets what he was saying. You can't make this stuff up.
