THE LSD CRISIS 1966
Documentary. This film was made before LSD was criminalized in the United States. It features some of the best footage of Timothy Leary and his students at the Millbrook, NY estate taking LSD and discussing its effects. Also featured are Richard Alpert and Ralph Meltzner. Leary says, "Statistics show that taking LSD is no more dangerous than signing up for a four year course at Harvard College."

Timothy Leary explains that his first encounter with psychedelic drugs occurred in 1960 while in Mexico. He ingested a sacred mushroom and learned more in five hours than in his previous 15 years of conducting psychological research.

This film shows Leary under the influence of LSD and pondering his inner visions. Later he reads to his students the notes he took while "conducting his LSD experiment." Alpert and Meltzer weigh in on the effects of LSD and how the taker must be prepared to become a changed person.

Businessmen and executives who have taken LSD are interviewed and they tell how they gained deeper insight into the workings of their companies, themselves and their contributions. A furniture design executive takes LSD and draws shapes and patterns of what he "sees" in his mind. Later he transforms these shapes into 3D models that become stunningly beautiful and well-designed pieces of furniture.

All interviewed agree that any government that tries to prohibit the use of LSD through legislation will fail and miss out on identifying potentially very important new discoveries.

Plus this bonus selection...

THE SACRED MUSHROOM 1961
U.S. TV show. "One Step Beyond." Jan-21-1961. In this amazing episode, host John Newland travels to Mexico to eat psilocybin mushrooms to determine if they can enhance one's extrasensory perception capacities. This show aired less than a year after Timothy Leary had traveled to Cuernavaca and had his first experiences with psilocybin, making Newland, along with Leary, one of the handful of high profile pioneers of psychedelia and one of the first public figures to praise psilocybin's mind expanding properties.
