THE MAKING OF PET SOUNDS 1966
U.S. documentary. Excellent quality. Rare film footage. Get an inside look at what went into creating and recording the phenomenal Beach Boys album, "Pet Sounds." Includes an examination of the sessions and the album's legacy by the Beach Boys, writer Tony Asher and Wrecking Crew musicians.

Also, an excerpt from the unreleased documentary, "Rhythm of Life," in which Sir George Martin joins Brian Wilson in the studio for a discussion of the album's musical significance. Brian complements George on his mixing skills.

Loads of vintage film footage including: the 1966 promotional color "firehouse film" for the song, "Good Vibrations." The original 1966 promotional black & white films for the songs "Sloop John B" and "Pet Sounds."

Interviews include: Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Dennis Wilson, Carl Wilson, Bruce Johnston and Tony Asher. Hal Blaine, Carol Kaye, Don Randi, Frankie Capp and Tommy Morgan.

Plus this bonus selection...

THE JACK BENNY HOUR 1965
U.S. TV special. Excellent quality. Beach Boys perform "California Girls" and appear in a skit with Jack and Bob Hope who play Beatle wig-wearing surfers who drive up in a hot rod and inquire about the waves. Jack tries to weasel tickets to Disneyland from Walt Disney.

Also, a skit with Benny, Hope and Elke Sommer in a takeoff on Italian movies. This was Jack's first TV special after the end of his regular series.

If you think you love the Beach Boys now, watch this film and watch your love for them reach new heights. I've always viewed Pet Sounds as the album with the hits "Wouldn't it be Nice," "God Only Knows" and "Sloop John B." But the album is so much more. It is an insight to the heart, mind and soul of Brian Wilson. To be honest I've never thought very highly of Brian, but this documentary totally changed my mind. Thank you, Video Beat, for another vitally important document of rock history. Now if only they'd do a "Making of Sgt Pepper" documentary -- wouldn't THAT be nice?!
[From the VIDEO BEAT] They did! I'll send it to you. :) (Posted on 7/23/15)
