HOW TO PICK UP GIRLS 1978
U.S. made for TV movie. In 1968 Eric Weber interviewed women to learn what it would take for them to "hook up" with a complete stranger. He then published his "research" in the paperback book "How To Pick Up Girls" and marketed it through ads in Playboy, National Lampoon, GQ and Esquire. It has sold more than 3 million copies worldwide and been translated into 20 languages.

And it was made into a TV movie in 1978. The film, loosely based on the book, follows the adventures of an unsophisticated guy from Nebraska who moves to Greenwich Village to share an apartment with his swinging, girl-chasing buddy and soon realizes he has a thing or two to learn if he wants to score with the ladies.

He takes a tape recorder out in the NYC streets and interviews dozens of women as "research," then puts his new techniques to the test—and they work! He then writes a book to teach other shy guys how to make it with the ladies!

Lots of terrific film footage of New York City in 1978 – before Time Square became family-friendly. Some of the club scenes were filmed at Studio 54. The film is fun and smarmy and is the precursor to the tidal wave of raunchy teen movies that were released in the 1980s.
