Hollywood Films is a collection of short films chronicling the golden age of Hollywood from its movie stars and film production to the technological developments that kept Hollywood at the forefront of the entertainment industry.

HOLLYWOOD HOLIDAYS 1946
U.S. film. Vivid color film examines Hollywood and the greater Los Angeles area's film industry and the burgeoning television industry. Wonderful color footage of famous Hollywood landmarks and institutions.

THE MOVIES LEARN TO TALK 1959
U.S. film. This episode of the TV series, The Twentieth Century, hosted by Walter Cronkite, traces the development of sound movies from the early experiments with clumsy systems at the turn of the century to the polished and sophisticated films produced sixty years later. A very interesting look at the development of sound on film technology.

HOLLYWOOD MY HOMETOWN 1965
U.S. TV special. Ken Murray arrived in Hollywood in 1927 from his hometown of Kingston, New York. Instead of sending postcards of Hollywood back to his family, he purchased a 16mm camera, filmed Hollywood stars, many he didn't even know at the time, and sent the films back to his family.

This TV special is a compilation of much of that footage taken over thirty-five years, plus some additional professional footage provided by his now Hollywood friends. Virtually every famous (and almost famous) movie star can be seen backstage, at home, at parties, on vacation or just relaxing. The film includes some nice footage of Sunset Boulevard, Paramount Studios, and Hollywood Boulevard.

MARCH OF THE MOVIES 1933
U.K. film. A two-reel short from the famous 'March of Time' series covers the history of "moving pictures" from 1848 to the (then) present, and goes into detail about how stationary frames of pictures are made to move, and how sound is put onto the track. Many rare clips are shown, some from productions that no longer exist in their entirety.
