NIGHT TIDE 1961
U.S. film. Night Tide was filmed at various Southern California ocean front locations including Venice Beach, the Santa Monica Pier, Pacific Ocean Park and the Long Beach Pike.

Dennis Hopper plays Johnny Drake, a sailor on shore leave who discovers a "Mermaid" sideshow attraction at the marina. "Mermaid" Mora (Linda Lawson) lives in a room above a merry-go-round. Soon she and Johnny fall in love. The locals are suspicious of Mora because her previous lovers have all died mysteriously.

Mora believes she is a descendant of the Sirens, mythic sea creatures who tempt sailors to their deaths. Every once in a while a creepy woman (Marjorie Cameron) suddenly appears and scares Mora. She believes the woman is the leader of the Sirens, calling her to realize her fate.

Night Tide has an eerie, haunting, almost surreal quality with interesting photography and sultry atmosphere. Look for a cool jazz club scene featuring Paul Horn on flute, Joe Gordon on trumpet, Victor Gaskin on double bass and Milt Turner on drums. Jazz club songs: "Seaweed" and "The Tell Tale Harp."

Famous bongoist (that's a real word) Leon "Chaino" Johnson who played bongos on a series of "exotica" albums in the late 1950s and early 1960s is featured in the film and in particular a beach scene where Mora dances wildly. Dennis Hopper, Linda Lawson, Gavin Muir, Luana Anders, Marjorie Eaton, Paul Horn, Bruno VeSota, Tom Dillon.

PUBLIC DEFENDER 1955
U.S. TV show. "Mama's Boy." Dennis Hopper stars as a teenager in big trouble after accidentally killing a wimpy friend in self-defense. Turns out the dead teen's mother was a real head case—she encouraged her son to NOT fit in and told him he was "too good" for the other boys and "too delicate."
