U.S. TV special. Karen and Richard Carpenter host their first Christmas TV special with guests Kristy McNichol, Harvey Korman, Burr Tillstrom, and Kukla & Ollie (minus Fran). Many of the songs were from Spike Jones' 1956 Christmas Spectacular, which Karen and Richard listened to as children.

Karen, Richard and their band have just finished filming a show segment and Karen invites the gang over for a holiday party. Richard declines the offer. "I can't put my finger on it," he says, "but Christmas just doesn't feel the same as it used to." He's got the blues. Richard wanders through Los Angeles looking for the spirit of Christmas. He finds Harvey Korman (Carol Burnett Show) and Kristy McNichol (Emmy winner for her role in, "Family") both of which also have the blues and nowhere to go.

Classic variety show with lushly orchestrated special material and lots of soft focus lenses with icy filter effects, combined with a generous helping of the Carpenter's classic Christmas songs. Musical highlights include: "Home For The Holidays," "Sleigh Ride," "Winter Wonderland," and "O Holy Night."
