Double Feature!
SPEED 1936
U.S. film. It's the white collar pencil pushers versus the blue collar gear heads! The fast-paced world of Indy car racing provides the backdrop for this movie. The story centers on a test driver who works at a major auto plant. He and his cohorts have invented a new kind of carburetor and are feverishly working to perfect and use it in the upcoming Indianapolis 500.
On the day the carburetor is finally tested, something goes terribly wrong and the test driver and the inventor nearly die. Great footage of an auto manufacturing plant showing all the steps in building a car. Cool hillbilly barn dance scene while staying at Muroc dry lake proving grounds. Great hot rod footage. James Stewart, Wendy Barrie, Una Merkel, Weldon Heyburn, Ted Healy.
Plus this bonus selection...
THE BOTTLE AND THE THROTTLE 1968
U.S. educational film. Classic Sid Davis "Classroom Scare Film." The horrors of drinking and driving are illustrated when teenagers returning from a beach party run over and kill a young mother and child. In between the story, we're shown what happens to alcohol when it enters the human body; also some nice actual crash scenes.
