THE SMASHING BIRD I USED TO KNOW 1969
(a.k.a. SCHOOL FOR UNCLAIMED GIRLS)

U.K. film. Excellent quality. Widesceen. Juvenile delinquent bad girls, lesbian make out scenes, full frontal nudity, rape, bloodshed and go-go dancing. What more do you need? Released in the U.S. in 1973 as "School For Unclaimed Girls."

Nine-year-old Nicki Johnson attends an amusement park where her father falls from the merry-go-round and is crushed to death in the machinery. The tragedy leaves Nicki traumatized and by the time she is 16 she is a troubled and confused teenager. Nicki lives with her mother who is emotionally withdrawn and has had a series of younger lovers. Her latest boyfriend is a sleazy con artist whom Nikki detests.

When mother's boyfriend tries to have his way with Nikki, she stabs him with a pair of scissors. This results in her being sent to an all-girl, juvenile delinquent reform school. Nicki is overwhelmed by life in the reformatory where bullying and violence is the norm. She keeps a low profile to avoid being victimized and strikes up a "special friendship" with Sarah, a lesbian inmate who has a fearsome reputation as one of the toughest girls on the block. Sarah and Nicki manage to escape the facility. They take temporary refuge with an old boyfriend of Nicki's and remain wanted criminals...until fate intervenes.

The Smashing Bird I Used To Know features actors who had appeared in some of the best British invasion and swinging London films of the 1960s. Madeleine Hinde, Renée Asherson, Dennis Waterman (Up The Junction 1967), Maureen Lipman (Up The Junction 1967), Patrick Mower, Faith Brook (To Sir, With Love 1967), Megs Jenkins (Cop Out 1967), Janina Faye, David Lodge (Having A Wild Weekend, Smashing Time and, What's Good for the Goose), Derek Fowlds, Colette O'Neil, Lesley-Anne Down.
