COP OUT 1967
U.K. film. It's the mod youth generation versus the old square, establishment adults. The soundtrack features Eric Burdon and the Animals song, "Ain't That So." Look for cool 1960s camera angles, flashbacks and groovy music. There's a way-out scene at a mod discothèque where patrons smoke pot and dig "now" art and fashion.

The film examines a man (James Mason) who was once a talented lawyer, but fell into booze after his wife ran away. He feebly raises his daughter (Geraldine Chaplin) who is in a clique of affluent teenagers seeking escapism via discothèques, drugs and kooky behavior. They put down the older generation and don't want to be a part of their world.

Bobby Darin plays a tough and brooding late twenty-something who has more life experience (and is a little creepy). The teenagers bring him into their circle. Soon he shows up dead. When his daughter's boyfriend (Paul Bertoya) is suspected of murder, the drunken lawyer seeks to repair the father-daughter relationship by defending her boyfriend.

James Mason, Geraldine Chaplin, Bobby Darin, Paul Bertoya, Ian Ogilvy, Bryan Stanyon, Pippa Steel, Clive Morton, Moira Lister, James Hayter, Rita Webb.
